A Tender Heart

Today I told Cherish we were going to a place that would be handing out supplies to people who are homeless. She said, “Great! I want to help!” She told me she had money she wanted to “hand out to people”.

I talked with my brother—who was one of the men in charge of the event—and we decided it would be better if she used her money to buy the items the people might need. Then she could hand out the items she had purchased. She was elated!

We went to the store and she looked for items that were the “biggest” and the “best”. She would hold up two items and ask herself out loud, “If I bought these for myself, which one would I choose?” Then she would proceed to put that particular item into the cart. Money didn’t matter. She wanted to give what she wanted to get.

When we got up to the register, she dumped all her coins out on the counter. Thankfully, there was no one behind us for most of the transaction, and the cashier was very patient as over $13.00 worth of quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies were counted out.

After the event, I took Cherish to the mall playground to play in air-conditioning. Being that today was a holiday and the temperatures were soaring, the playground was packed.

Before leaving the house, Cherish had gathered two of her purses packed with million-dollar-bills (tracts). (She wanted to be sure she had enough for the day.) When we got to the playground, she began handing out the tracts to the children. She even asked another girl to help her hand out the tracts.

I was incredibly moved as I watched one girl—about 8 years old—sit down and read the tract on the spot. Sitting. On the playground. To READ a tract!

Those “bills” will touch many lives.* Those children’s hands and eyes are just the beginning. There will likely be siblings, parents, grandparents, and friends who will also get to see and read those tracts.

I can honestly say, it seems as though God has stamped eternity on this little girl's eyes. She is constantly on the look-out for people who need to “know about Jesus” (in her words).

To God be the Glory.

“LORD, we want to hold Cherish loosely. Continue to use her as You desire.”
